Copperas Cove takes its undefeated record to Marble Falls today as it opens play in the three-day Hill Country Classic.

After producing a perfect showing en route to winning the Bush’s Classic championship last week, the Lady Bulldawgs (8-0) will attempt to repeat the feat, beginning with today’s pair of pool-play games.

Copperas Cove plays Austin Vandegrift at 9 a.m. before facing San Antonio O’Connor at 3 p.m. The Lady Bulldawgs complete pool play Friday against Bryan Cornerstone Christian at 1:30 p.m. before finishing the 16-team tournament with bracket play Saturday.

Copperas Cove is not the only team in action, though.

Lampasas, Salado and Ellison also begin treks for tournament titles today.

The Lady Badgers play the first of six games during the three-day Austin Crockett Lady Cougar Classic this afternoon, facing Austin McCallum at 3 p.m. and host Crockett at 6 p.m.

At Allen, Ellison plays a pair of pool-play games against Plano West (noon) and San Antonio Brandeis (4:30 p.m.) to open the Lady Eagles Hoopfest. Ellison faces Pleasant Grove on Friday at 1:30 p.m. to complete pool play.

The 32-team tournament concludes Saturday.

Elsewhere, Salado travels to Abilene to take part in the Polk Key City Classic – the oldest continuous girls only tournament in the state, beginning in 1952.

A total of 16 teams will take part in the tournament.


Shoemaker opens its run at the 12-team Justin Northwest Classic today with a single pool-play game against Trophy Club Byron Nelson at 1:15 p.m.

The Grey Wolves round out their pool-play schedule Friday against Mesquite Horn (9 a.m.) and Amarillo (1:15 p.m.) with the results determining seeding for a pair of games Saturday.

Class 6A No. 8 Ellison begins play at the Coppell Tip-Off Showcase today. Competing in the Black Division, the Eagles play Katy Taylor at 1:30 p.m.

They round out pool play Friday with games against Tyler Lee (10:30 a.m.) and Dallas Bishop Lynch (4:30 p.m.). The eight-team tournament concludes Saturday.

Additionally, Harker Heights travels for a single contest against Dallas Spruce at 8 a.m.
