The Copperas Cove Bulldawgs will start the 2018 football season with a familiar foe, and they won’t have a lot of time to get ready for their first consequential matchup two weeks later.
The Cove football schedule was finalized this week. The Bulldawgs begin the regular season Saturday, Sept. 1, at home against Mexico's Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon. The teams will meet for the third straight season and the seventh time since 2010.
A week later, Cove travels to Manor for its final tuneup before beginning play in the new nine-team District 12-6A. It's the first meeting between the schools.
The expanded league slate starts with a big matchup out of the gate — a road trip to Belton on Sept. 14.
The Bulldawgs host Killeen a week later, then head to Ellison for a Thursday game on Sept. 27.
The other Thursday game is Nov. 1 at Shoemaker.
Homecoming is set for Oct. 5 against Waco. A week later, Cove travels to Waco to face state runner-up Midway.
The Bulldawgs host Harker Heights on Oct. 26, and close the season on Nov. 9 at home against Temple.
With an odd number of teams in the district, each school will have an open date. Cove's will be Oct. 19.
Former league rivals Waco and Temple were added to the old District 8-6A lineup in February's UIL realignment. The Bulldawgs will be facing both teams for the first time since 2012.
