Josh Ropple hit a game-tying single in the top of the seventh inning and the Copperas Cove baseball team remained unbeaten Friday following a 2-2 tie with Austin Royals Homeschool at the Central Texas Invitational hosted by Hutto and Cedar Creek high schools.

With the tie, the Bulldawgs are 13-0-2.

Earlier in the day, Michael Goudeau had two hits and drove in four runs in a 10-2 win over Austin Bowie. Tyler Ingram was 2 for 3 with three RBIs. Cameron Johnson had two hits and an RBI. Nick Izquierdo went 3 for 4.

Brian Hodges allowed just two hits and struck out three in five innings.

Izquierdo went the distance against Austin Royals. He struck out seven and allowed one earned run on six hits. Ropple was 2 for 3.

The Bulldawgs play Austin Travis today at noon in Cedar Creek.


SALADO 7, LAMPASAS 2: At Salado, Amanda Cantu doubled and drove in two runs and the Lady Eagles won their second straight to start District 19-4A play.

Breigh Oliver was 2-for-3 and scored twice.

Bailey Tindell went the distance in the circle, allowing just one earned run and striking out six.

Salado led all the way after scoring three times in the bottom of the second inning. The Lady Eagles added three more in the fifth to cap the scoring.

Kyndal Moyer had three of Lampasas' six hits — including a double — and scored both runs.

Collyn Schuricht was 2 for 3.

The Lady Badgers (1-1 19-4A) made five errors that led to four unearned runs.

COPPERAS COVE 15, ELLISON 9: Kristian Wasiak belted a solo homer in the first inning, Brooke Schmidt went the distance in the circle and the host Lady Dawgs picked up their first District 8-6A win.

Cove is 1-2 in league play.


SALADO 3, ACADEMY 0: At Little River-Academy, Ashlen LaCanne, Aubrey Heffner and Avery Wright scored as the Lady Eagles completed a perfect 10-game sweep of District 25-4A.

Hannah Reavis and Riley Stewart recorded assists.

The Lady Eagles will play a pair of warmup games before the opening weekend of the playoffs begins on March 29.

COPPERAS COVE 3, KILLEEN 0: At KSSC Field, Haven Stevenson had a goal and assist as the Lady Dawgs won their season finale.

Nicole Evans opened the scoring with a corner kick. Stevenson score the second goal, assisted by Adora Lumpkin. Kailey Walker capped the scoring.


COPPERAS COVE 1, KILLEEN 1, TIE: At Bulldawg Stadium, Caleb Honts scored for Copperas Cove as the teams played to a 1-1 draw for the second time this season.

Honts' goal was assisted by Cam Ryan.

SALADO 5, ACADEMY 2: Kaden Smien scored twice and the 25-4A champion Eagles closed the regular season with a road win over runner-up Academy.

Costas Loullis added a goal and three assists. Brian Chavez and Brandon Rodriguez also scored for Salado (15-5-1, 8-0).

Academy fell to 11-6-2 overall and 5-3 in league play.


Copperas Cove's Jalen Nix and Gavin Glick fell in the boys doubles championship match in the Cove Spring Fling tournament.

The Bulldawg duo fell 6-2, 6-1 against a Taylor tandem in the finale of the 16-team bracket.

Nix and Glick cruised up to that point, dropping only five games in winning their first three matches.

Cove's Noah Chapman and Noah Samarripa finished third after topping a Taylor duo 8-4. They fell in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-2, against another Taylor team.

Ari Diaz finished fourth in boys singles. Diax opened with an 8-1 win over Brownwood's James Bautista, then downed Round Rock Cedar Ridge's Will Grigsby 8-6 before falling 6-1, 6-4 in the semifinals.

Diaz defeated Cedar Ridge's Andy Thornton 6-2, 6-0 in the third-place match.
