Drew Dobbins and Jacob Wilk combined on a four-hitter and Salado never trailed in a 3-1 win over Taylor on Friday that gave the Eagles sole possession of the District 19-4A lead.

Dobbins allowed just one run on three hits in five innings and struck out six.

Wilk earned the save, getting the final six outs on strikeouts and allowing just one hit.

Taylor tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the top of the third, but the Eagles reclaimed a 2-1 lead in the bottom half.

Mac Miller provided an insurance run for Salado (12-2-2, 4-0 19-4A) with a fourth-inning homer.

Taylor fell to 15-5 overall, and 2-1 in 19-4A.

COPPERAS COVE 13, SHOEMAKER 0 (5): Jaylen Smith tossed a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts and the Bulldawgs completed a sweep of the Grey Wolves with a run-rule victory.

Colby Jost, Smith and Michael Goudeau each went 2 for 3 to lead the offense for Cove (16-2-2, 2-2 8-6A). Josh Ropple and Nick Izquierdo each went 2 for 4.

The Dawgs head to Ellison on Tuesday.

BOYS SOCCER

SALADO 2, MIDLOTHIAN HERITAGE 1: At Midlothian, Costas Loullis scored both goals for the Eagles in a playoff warmup game victory against the District 8-4A champion Jaguars.

Manny Tonchez and Kaden Smien assisted on the goals.

District 25-4A champ Salado (16-5-1) opens the playoffs against Lampasas on Thursday at Copperas Cove's Bulldawg Stadium.

Midlothian fell to 19-5-1.

GIRLS SOCCER

COPPERAS COVE 9, JARRELL 0: Adora Lumpkin, Kaylie Walker and Donna Thaney each scored twice as the Lady Dawgs rolled to a playoff warmup victory over the Class 4A Lady Cougars at Bulldawg Stadium.

Tori Olsen, Ariana Wilson and Ja'Nia Johnson also scored for Copperas Cove.

Audrey Spicer and Walker were credited with assists.

The Lady Dawgs will open the playoffs against Irving MacArthur at a time and site to be determined.

SOFTBALL

BELTON 14, COPPERAS COVE 0 (5): The host Lady Dawgs fell to 3-4 in District 8-6A play with a run-rule defeat.

Addie Cook and Madalyn Scribner each doubled for the Lady Dawgs. Taylor Martin went the distance and suffered the loss.

SALADO 11, TAYLOR 3: Amanda Cantu hit a three-run triple, Breigh Oliver added a two-run homer and the Lady Eagles cruised to a home victory and improved to 6-0 in District 19-4A.

Reese Preston hit a two-run single, and Ryley Oborski was 2 for 3.

Salado starter Rebecca Dockray went 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on two hits. Bailey Tindell closed with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit.
