San Angelo Central's Deveraux Minix drilled a 3-pointer at the buzzer, sending the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs to their seventh straight loss, 70-68 on Tuesday in San Angelo.

It was the most gut-wrenching loss yet in the streak for Cove, which had lost four other games in the skid by three points or less.

Cove led 68-67 with 5.3 seconds left and the Bobcats needing to go the length of the floor. Minix, who scored a game-high 21 points — all on 3-pointers — took a pass from the corner and let it fly as he fell to the floor right in front of the Bobcat bench.

It hit nothing but net.

The Bulldawgs (22-8, 1-7 8-6A) routed Central 104-73 at home in their district opener on Dec. 15. When 8-6A play resumed on Jan. 2, Cove was 22-1 and expected to be a contender in the league race. They haven't won since and dropped behind the Bobcats (9-17, 2-6) into sole ownership of last place.

Quinton Ford led three Bulldawgs in double figures with 19 points. Neyland Block and Frank Alvarado each had 10.

NO. 18 ELLISON GIRLS 65, SHOEMAKER 33: Ellison's Cielo McClain nearly beat the Lady Wolves by herself, scoring 32 points in the No. 18 Lady Eagles' victory.

Marliah Johnson (11 points) and Dajia Planas also scored in double figures for Ellison (18-8, 9-1 8-6A), which clinched a playoff berth and remained a game ahead of Waco Midway in the race for the district championship.

The Lady Eagles outscored Shoemaker 16-2 in the second quarter to take a 29-11 lead at halftime. They continued pulling away in the second half.

McClain and Alina Simon each had four of the Lady Eagles' 16 steals.

North Texas signee Charlene Shepherd scored 18 for Shoemaker, but the Lady Wolves fell to 0-10 in 8-6A.

LAMPASAS BOYS 52, LLANO 38: At Llano, Austin Martin scored 21 points and the Lampasas Badgers pulled away in the second half.

Kyle Sims added 12 points for Lampasas (20-8, 4-3 19-4A), which won its third straight.

The Badgers grabbed a solo share of third place, one game ahead of Salado which lost to Leander Glenn. Salado and Glenn are tied for fourth at 3-4.

Xavier Nix finished with nine points, six rebounds and three steals for Lampasas. Martin also had six rebounds and three steals.

“Big-time defensive effort,” LHS coach Aaron Nuckles said. “We don’t win that game without our defense.”

GATESVILLE GIRLS 45, WACO LA VEGA 40: At Gatesville, Rebekah Nolte scored 12 points, Allaira Jones added 11 and the Hornets won to increase their lead over fourth-place Waco Connally in District 17-4A.

Gatesville (6-3 17-4A) leads Connally, which lost 43-39 to No. 22 Lorena, by a game and a half. La Vega is two games back in fifth place.

LEANDER GLENN GIRLS 40, SALADO GIRLS 34: At Salado, the Grizzlies capitalized on Salado's shooting woes and knocked the Lady Eagles out of fourth place in District 19-4A.

Kaia Philen led Lampasas with 13 points. Salado (4-5 19-4A) began the night tied for fourth with Lampasas, but the Lady Badgers won 41-38 at Llano.
