Makayla Gatewood scored 20 points and the Shoemaker girls basketball team capped off a perfect run through the Hays CISD Classic by beating host school Hays 44-35 in the championship game Saturday in Buda.
The Lady Wolves have won six straight and improved their record to 10-5.
Mauricea Mathis added seven points, and tourney MVP Charlene Shepherd had six.
Gatewood was also named to the all-tourney team.
Shepherd scored 22 points, and Gatewood added 17 Friday as the Lady Wolves downed 5A-No. 9 Kerrville Tivy 54-45.
Also on Friday, Shoemaker upended 5A-No. 14 Dripping Springs 42-37 behind Shepherd’s game-high 14 points.
Gatewood was the star Thursday, with 28 points in a 71-49 win over Corpus Christi Ray, and 23 points in a 76-21 rout of Austin Reagan.
ELLISON BOYS LOSE SILVER BRACKET CHAMPIONSHIP: Ryan Birt made three 3-pointers and scored 15 points to lead Plano West to a 60-55 win over Ellison in the Silver Bracket championship game at the Mansfield ISD tournament.
Dajuan Jones led Ellison with 12 points. Mike Aranda, who was named to the all-tournament team, added 10.
Ellison fell behind 19-6 and couldn’t recover.
The Eagles won two games Friday. Casey Armour scored 17 points in Ellison’s 45-34 win over Flower Mound Marcus. Jones added 11 points, and Aranda had eight.
Jones had 17 in a 55-49 win over Mansfield. Armour scored nine, and Travian Wright added eight.
WOLVES WIN CONSOLATION CROWN: At Mansfield, J'wan Roberts scored 19 points, and Javon Levi added 17 to help Shoemaker capture the consolation championship of the Mansfield ISD Tournament with a 67-62 overtime win over Class 3A-No. 8 Dallas Madison.
The game was tied 27-all at halftime, but the Grey Wolves (5-2) pushed out to a 44-38 lead with a 17-11 third quarter.
However, the Trojans responded with an 18-12 fourth to knot the game at 56.
But Shoemaker saved its best for last, outscoring Madison 11-6 in the extra stanza to win by five.
Devyn Brewton added nine points for the Wolves, and Antoine James chipped in with six.
LADY ROOS DROP 2 IN ARLINGTON TOURNEY: Shianne Johnson scored 21 points, but the Killeen girls fell 49-47 to Arlington Martin on their final day at the Arlington tournament.
Cierra Penn added seven points. Jacen Moore finished with six points and six rebounds.
The Lady Roos also lost to No. 19 Cedar Hill 60-49. Johnson finished with 10 points. Penn and Meleanna Williams (five rebounds) scored nine apiece. Moore talllied eight points, seven boards and two blocks.
