Bryce Cook scored 17 points and 11th-ranked South Grand Prairie handed Ellison its first loss of the season, 66-52 on Friday in the Mansfield ISD Tournament.
Casey Armour led Ellison with 16 points. Elijah Moleon added 10.
South Grand Prairie led 31-28 at halftime and took command with a 19-7 run over the third quarter. The Warriors made 10 3-pointers.
Ellison (8-1) bounced back with a 69-41 rout of Bryan Rudder later in the day.
K.J. Green made three 3-pointers and led Ellison with 13 points. Avante Bell added 11, and Laurence Bryant had 10.
The Eagles will play Shoemaker today at 2:30 p.m.
Salado boys split pair Thursday in tourney
Jake Pittman scored 11 points and the Salado boys basketball team rolled past Central Texas Christian 62-26 on Thursday to salvage a split of their opening two games of the Salado Coach Smith Tournament.
Reece Brown made a pair of 3-pointers and scored 10 points. Shane Roche also had 10.
The Eagles outscored CTCS in every period and led 31-12 at halftime.
Earlier in the day, Jeremy Jarvis made five of Salado’s nine 3-pointers, but the Eagles fell to Caldwell 56-52. Sammy Brown added 12 points.
In the girls bracket, Salado lost to Hutto (45-39) and Mason (55-41).
Lexie Lima led Salado with 16 points against Hutto. Kayla Manning added 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
Katelyn Seymour led Salado with nine points. Kaia Philen finished with seven points. Kayla Manning had six points and six rebounds.
