La’Praisjah Johnson racked up 26 points, Madison Hattix-Covington added 11 and Ellison beat Class 5A No. 11-ranked Georgetown 55-49 in Georgetown in a game that saw 67 fouls between the two teams.
“I’m very pleased with our win,” Lady Eagles head coach Sherry McKinnon said. “It was a tough win for us, and I was glad we came out on top. Several of our young ladies were in foul trouble, and I had two foul out.
“Defensively, we made some key stops. Georgetown is a very good team with a lot of tradition, so to go there and win, I was very pleased with our young ladies.”
Gemma Alhambra added five points for Ellison, and Sydney Brock and Marliah Johnson had four points apiece.
The Lady Eagles (8-1) are scheduled to play at Pflugerville, ranked No. 11 in Class 6A, today at 12:30 p.m.
WACO LA VEGA 43, NO. 12 KILLEEN 39: At Waco, Ta’naiya Norwood scored 14 points and Waco La Vega upset 12th-ranked Killeen.
The Lady Roos (4-3) struggled through the first half and trailed 27-18. They rebounded in the third quarter with a 15-4 run to take a 33-31 lead, only to get outscored 12-6 in the final frame.
Shianne Johnson led Killeen with 23 points.
The Lady Roos were their own worst enemy, making just 3 of 11 free throws and failing to capitalize on La Vega’s own woes at the stripe (10 of 24).
Killeen returns to action tonight at home against No. 24 Austin Bowie.
