Ivan Jasso and Kyle Molter each scored 12 points and the 19th-ranked Lometa Hornets locked up the District 25-1A championship with a 59-49 victory at Cherokee on Tuesday.

“Cherokee did a good job early on of taking away our strong points,” said Lometa head coach Aaron Nuckles. “But our perimeter guys did a great job of getting the ball into our posts as the game went on.”

The district championship is a school-record fourth in a row for Lometa (22-3, 8-0 25-1A).

Adrian Rivera added 10 points for the Hornets. Connell Barnett and Carlos Perez scored nine apiece.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

LAMPASAS 56, LLANO 48: At Lampasas, Alexis Theus led three players in double figures with 17 points and the Lady Badgers won their second straight after an 0-6 start in District 25-4A.

Raegan Whitehead added 15 points for Lampasas. Nola Bishop had 14.

The Lady Badgers travel to No. 14 Liberty Hill on Friday.

GIRLS SOCCER

SALADO 2, LIBERTY HILL 0: At Salado, Katey Ewton and Tyler Pierce scored in the final five minutes and the Lady Eagles won their second straight to start district play.

Ashlen LaCanne had an assist for Salado (10-1).

BELTON 4, KILLEEN 0: At Leo Buckley Stadium, Lexi Summers and Lauren Din played well at midfield for the defeated Lady Roos.

Mara Royse, Reyna Ibarra and Leanna Johnson played well on defense.

BOYS SOCCER

ELLISON 4, COPPERAS COVE 1: Ellison got a pair of goals from David Navarro and Marcell Wright to defeat Copperas Cove.

Nygree Poole and Ahmad Holt provided both assists for the Eagles (6-4-2, 2-0-1 12-6A).

“We started off slow, but as the game went on we started to click,” said head coach Niles Dunnells.

LIBERTY HILL 1, SALADO 0: At Salado, the Panthers scored late and held on to beat the Eagles in Salado’s district opener.

“The boys played hard and definitely put themselves in position to win the game, but we just couldn’t find a way to finish,” Salado coach Michael Goos said.

Salado is 7-1 overall.

Salado hosts Florence on Friday at 7:30 p.m., following the varsity girls contest.
