Lometa led 15-8 following the first quarter before inflating its cushion to 19 points, 31-12, by halftime.

The Lady Owls come into the game with a 26-2 overall record.

The contest will be played Friday at 8 p.m. at Leon High School in Jewett.

SOFTBALL

NO. 8 FLORENCE 24, HAMILTON 0, 5 INN.: At Hamilton, Emily Gray threw a perfect game by striking out every batter, and Mackenzie Futrell had 10 RBIs to lead the Lady Buffaloes to a lopsided win to open the season.

“It was surprising,” head coach Brett Gola said of the eye-popping stat lines, “but a good surprise.”

Futrell was 4 for 4 on the night with two doubles, a triple and a home run, missing her chance for the cycle when her final hit went for a double. China Galvan was also perfect at the plate, going 3 for 3 with five RBIs and a triple. Gray also had two hits and two RBIs for the Lady Buffaloes, who will open play in the Killeen ISD Tournament on Thursday.
