The 14th-ranked Killeen Lady Roos remained all alone in first place in District 12-6A after a 60-51 road win over No. 11 Waco Midway on Friday.

Killeen is 4-0 in district, 22-4 overall.

Killeen was led by guard Shianne Johnson who scored a game-high 27 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Johnson was 10 for 10 from the free-throw line.

Also for Killeen, Tia Harston scored 16 points, hitting 3 of 6 3-point attempts. Jacen Moore grabbed 10 boards and scored seven points. Ke’Aunna Johnson scored seven points and had seven rebounds.

Marie Benson scored 20 points to lead the Pantherettes (20-5, 2-2), who lost for the second time this week.

TAYLOR 57, SALADO 36: At Taylor, Sarah Kate Kelarek scored 11 points to lead the Lady Eagles in their District 25-4A-opening loss.


NO. 22 LOMETA 48, EVANT 16: At Evant, the 22nd-ranked Hornets opened District 25-1A play with a romp over Evant.

Kyle Molter scored 10 points, Adrian Rivera eight, Carlos Perez seven and Reid Moore six for Lometa (15-3).

“Defensively we played awesome,” said Lometa head coach Aaron Nuckles. “Our defense dominated. We played a lot of guys and it’s a good way to start district off.”

LAMPASAS 48, BANGS 29: At Lampasas, Jason Murphy scored a team-high 17 points, Daniel Hurst added 11 and the Badgers cruised to a victory.

After going into halftime tied 21-21, Lampasas scored 27 unanswered points in a run bridging the third and fourth quarters to put the score out of reach.

Along with Murphy and Hurst, Tyler Shivers and Harrison Gillespie added six and five points, respectively, for the Badgers, who finished nondistrict play with a 14-3 record.

FLORENCE 56, INGRAM MOORE 34: At Ingram, Matt Edgar scored 16 points and the Buffaloes improved to 2-1 in District 25-3A with a road victory.

Florence (10-8) outscored Moore (1-2 25-3A) 37-17 in the middle two quarters to take command.

“It was just a really good team effort tonight,” Florence coach Danny Wood said.

The Buffaloes have a bye Tuesday before returning to the road to face Comfort on Friday.


ELLISON 2, ABILENE COOPER 0: At Abilene, Marcell Wright scored both goals and the Ellison boys soccer team opened its season with a 2-0 shutout of Abilene Cooper on Thursday at the West Texas Invitational.

Michael Charlton played most of the game in goal for the Eagles and Erik Luna played keeper the final few minutes.

David Navarro assisted the first goal and Edmond Neely assisted on the second.
