Class 6A No. 19 Ellison continued its impressive start to the season by holding off Austin Lake Travis by three points, 39-36, in overtime to win its opening-round game at the Pflugerville tournament.
With the victory, Ellison improves to 12-1 on the season.
Casey Armour accounted for more that half of the Eagles points, finishing with a game-high 20.
After leading 27-15 at halftime, Ellison saw its lead completely disappear in the fourth quarter, when the Eagles were outscored 15-2.
FLORENCE 41, ROGERS 26: At Florence, led by C.J. Giddens’ game-high 13 points, the Buffaloes cruised into Saturday’s championship game of their home tournament with a one-sided victory against Rogers.
Florence held a 17-7 advantage after the first quarter and increased its cushion to 34-15 after holding its opponent to just two points in the third quarter.
The title game will be played Saturday at 6:15 p.m.
LAMPASAS 85, DUBLIN 57: At Hamilton, the Badgers received a career-high 16 points from senior Xavier Nix, who also grabbed 10 rebounds, en route to a lopsided victory on the opening day of the Hamilton tournament.
Lampasas also got double-digit point contributions from Austin Martin (14), Tyler Quarles (13) Kyle Sims (12), Kolbe Penick (11) and Phillip Blackstock (10).
With the victory, the Badgers improve to 9-4, and they will face Brownwood today at 9 a.m. to complete pool play. Lampasas will play one more game today before concluding the tournament with a game on Saturday.
SALADO 57, WACO JV 54, OT: At Jarrell, the Eagles narrowly earned a victory in their opening game of the Jarrell tournament after allowing a 25-17 first-quarter lead to disappear.
Anthony Young led Salado with 13 points, while teammates Jake Pittman and Sam Brown contributed 10 and nine points, respectively, in the win.
GATESVILLE 55, ST. ANDREWS 34: At Jarrell, the Hornets won their lone game during the opening day at the Jarrell tournament as guard Rebekah Nolte totaled a game-high 20 points, including six 3-pointers. Teammate Allaira Jones added 17 points in the victory.
Gatesville led 20-11 after the first quarter and inflated its cushion to 16 points, 35-19, by halftime.
The Hornets return to the court today, facing Crawford at 3 p.m.
SALADO 32, JOHN PAUL 26: At Jarrell, the Lady Eagles were victorious in their opening game of the Jarrell tournament thanks in part to a hot start.
Salado outscored its opponent 10-4 in the first quarter and 10-7 in the second quarter and never lost its advantage.
