After erasing an 18-point deficit in the fourth quarter, the Gatesville Hornet girls ran out of gas — and players — in a 67-62 overtime loss at home to fifth-ranked Glen Rose on Tuesday.

Marlee Ward and Alayna Washington each scored 16 points to lead Gatesville.

The Hornets trailed 17-8 after one period, and 28-17 at halftime. The deficit remained 11 after three quarters and expanded to 18 in the fourth before Gatesville mounted a comeback.

Ward hit both of her 3-pointers in the fourth and scored 10 points to help the Hornets rally and force overtime tied at 60.

But Gatesville could only muster a pair of Ward free throws in the extra period and fell to 2-4.

Three of the Hornets' losses have come against ranked teams, including No. 11 Liberty Hill (63-53) and 2A-No. 7 San Saba (63-61).

Gatesville opened the season with a 60-40 rout of then-ranked Burnet and also has a 54-36 win over 6A Belton.

On Tuesday, the Hornets were whistled for 35 fouls. Washington, T’Ana Nolte and Caitlin Chacon fouled out. Ward and Cade Smalley finished with four fouls

Glen Rose shot 49 free throws, but only made 27. The Hornets also struggled at the stripe, going 12-for-25.

Glen Rose was led by Breanna Baker’s 19 points. She made four free throws in overtime before fouling out.
