Former Killeen High track standout T’Mond Johnson, now a sophomore at Texas State, won the shot put Saturday at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at UT-Arlington.

Johnson’s best toss was 19.03 meters (62 feet, 5¼ inches) and he won by more than 3 feet over runner-up Zach Douglas of Troy.

Johnson was so dominant that half of his six attempts would have won him the title. He set a personal record and was just two centimeters from matching the school mark. His winning toss ranks him 20th nationally.

Johnson just missed a medal Sunday in the discus, placing fourth.

Johnson also won the Sun Belt indoor shot put in February.
