Salado’s Cutter Hudgens picked off a Farfield pass in the closing moments, preserving an Eagles’ 21-14 road win on Friday night.
“This was a great team victory,” said Salado first-year head coach Alan Haire. “We prepared so hard for two weeks to play this game and I’m so happy for our kids that they were rewarded with a win. We got a great effort by so many players and I was especially proud of the way Aaron Torczynski and Trey Sheppard played in our backfield.”
This was the initial District 9-4A, Division II contest for both squads. Salado (4-2, 1-0) has now won four straight contests.
Fairfield fell to 1-5 overall.
Torczynski scored on a 5-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and later tallied on a 1-yard run.
With 4:47 left in the contest, Sheppard scored on a 15-yard run. The Eagles had 300 yards rushing on 61 carries.
