LAMPASAS — After late afternoon rain showers delayed the start, Lampasas used a strong showing in doubles to propel it to a 16-3 victory against Class 5A Pflugerville.
Lampasas cruised to a 6-1 lead after dominating in doubles, with all three girls duos winning in straight sets and the boys tandems of Marcus Morua/Shrader Davis and Tristan Myrick/Tyler Connell each winning third-set tiebreakers.
“Both were crucial wins to give us a huge lead going into singles,” Lampasas head coach Kenneth Peiser said. “There was more poaching and better net play this evening, which was a huge plus, and everyone played hard and ran for every ball.”
Needing only four wins in singles competition to clinch the victory, the Badgers and Lady Badgers won 10 of 12 matches.
“The kids are starting to play smarter and gain confidence,” Peiser said.
The victory improves Lampasas’ record to 7-3 heading into Friday’s 8-3A match against Gatesville.
