UIL State Track and Field Championships
Tricia Williams of Lometa throws in the finals of the Class 1A-DII girls shot put on Friday, May 10 during the UIL State Track and Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. Williams' throw of 42-feet, 10.25 inches was enough claim the gold medal. Williams also defended her title by winning the girls discus for the second consecutive year.

“When I threw the shot put at state, one of my first or second throws was 40-something feet. Then, the one before my last throw, I threw 32 feet. So, it blew my mind that I got back into it and threw (42-10¼) and won.”

Tricia Williams established herself as an elite athlete in 2013, but she is not satisfied.
After sweeping the Class 1A-Division II throwing events at the UIL State Track & Field Championships and placing third at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association state meet, the senior finds it hard to believe she achieved so much so young.
