BRYAN — The Roos wouldn’t go away — until they were forced to.
Killeen kept extending the game with free throws and 3-pointers, but finally succumbed 90-86 Friday to the Bryan Vikings in the third overtime with four players fouled out on the bench.
DeVarri McCray led five Roos (9-8) in double figures with 15 points. Demarius Cress and Melvin Anthony each added 13. Brian Long scored 11, and Devin Williams had 10.
Qualyn Newton scored 31 for Bryan (8-7).
Long’s free throw near the end of regulation tied the game at 66 and sent the game to overtime.
Williams hit a 3-pointer with 6 seconds left in overtime, tying the game at 74. The Roos then got a defensive stop and it was off to double-overtime.
With time winding down in the second extra period, Anthony became the next hero, beating the buzzer with another game-tying 3 and it was off to overtime No. 3 tied at 82.
But the Roos finally ran out of firepower with McCray, Williams, Cress and Long sitting on the bench by game’s end. That was the only benefit Bryan received from Killeen’s 29 fouls as the Vikings went 18-of-40 at the foul line.
The Roos return to action Tuesday for their District 8-5A opener at Shoemaker at 5:30 p.m.
