Chalon Anderson is a third-generation Killeen Kangaroo.

Her entire life she has heard one statement over-and-over again: “Don’t lose to Shoemaker.”

The Lady Roos’ senior took it to heart so much that when Killeen fell in five games to the Lady Grey Wolves earlier in the season, Anderson went home and cried.

“It hurt me so bad for us to lose at home to them,” she said. “I really wanted to get them back for beating us at home.”

The Lady Roos did just that Friday, winning 25-13, 25-20, 25-19 to extend its win streak to three games.

Anderson wasn’t the sole reason for the Killeen victory — she was just the sparkplug. In each game, Shoemaker (18-16, 2-7 8-5A) would find itself down and had to claw back in order to close the gap, and each time Killeen (11-11, 4-5) answered — usually with Anderson.

Anderson closed out the third game with a kill from set up by sophomore Madison Sapp, who had 31 assists. The kill was Anderson’s eighth of the game and 13th overall.

“I give all credit to my libero, Kiana Ware. She is always telling me what’s open and where to go with the ball,” Anderson said. “She really is the reason I get those points.”

Killeen junior Sabrina Garcia also had 13 kills and two aces in the hard-fought win that was closer than the score indicated.

“I get scared every time we play Shoemaker,” said Killeen head coach Shelly Harris. “They play hard and scrappy, and you never know what they will throw at you. Coach (Merdith Shaw-) Moore has done a sensational job.”

Shoemaker played hard and scrappy. They just didn’t play cleanly.

“We made way too many mistakes to beat this team,” Lady Wolves coach Shaw-Moore said. “I told my team before the game, ‘The team that makes the least mistakes will win.’ We made more.”

Killeen travels to Temple on Tuesday while Ellison hosts Shoemaker.
