After going winless in its their two district games, the Killeen Lady Roos were in a must-win situation — an 0-3 to start district would be to big a hole to dig out of.
That didn’t happen.
Killeen notched its first District 8-5A win of the season at home against Temple on Friday night, winning 27-25, 12-25, 25-8, 25-12.
“We definitely wanted to get the win, and the girls played like that tonight,” Killeen coach Shelly Harris said. “We fought for every point, and that’s what it will take for us to be successful.”
Senior captain Chalon Anderson led the Lady Roos (8-8, 1-2) with 18 kills and 12 digs, while junior Sabrina Garcia notched 16 kills and seven digs.
Sophomore Madison Sapp tallied 35 assists and six digs as the back line’s ability to keep the ball alive paid dividends up front.
“We were aggressive at the net, hitting passed balls back over and we were able to score,” Harris said. “We really played better after that Game 2 loss. It seemed to get our focus back on winning.
“No one wants to lose a game.”
