Late-morning showers Wednesday led to numerous area district track meets either being delayed or postponed.
The District 8-5A meet was postponed to Thursday and Friday because of the rain that rolled through Temple about an hour before the scheduled 1 p.m. start, which was already pushed back from its original 9 a.m. start time due to weather.
“We’ve had our pits covered,” said Temple Athletic Director Mike Spradlin, who noted the decision to postpone the meet was made by the District 8-5A executive committee not Temple ISD. “We’re going to have some work to do, but we’ll be ready to go (today).”
The District 8-3A and 16-2A meets opted to postpone all field events to Thursday, but did complete running preliminaries as well as finals in the 3,200-meter run Wednesday evening.
After the one pointed event, both Salado track teams led the 16-2A meet in Lexington.
Ashley Adams and China Saxton finished 1-2 in the girls’ 3,200 for the Lady Eagles while Alex Cooke and Patrick Murray finished first and third, respectively, in the boys’ run.
