McKenzie Winkler only had one hit, but she made it count.

Five Gatesville batters contributed two hits apiece as the Hornets racked up 12 hits, including Winkler’s three-run home run over the center-field wall to cap a five-run third inning, in a 14-3 run-rule victory in five innings over District 8-3A rival Lampasas on Friday.

Leadoff hitter Ashley Cook led the double-hit barrage with a 2-for-3 night, knocking in three runs, including capping the run-rule with a two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth.

Blayne McGee, Megan Chambers, Shaley Sutton, and Lauren Nichols also had two hits for Gatesville (12-12, 1-0). Chambers scored three runs and Sutton added two RBI in the lopsided win. Catheliene Garzinski was 2 for 3 with an RBI for Lampasas and Devin Peek also drove in a run.
