GATESVILLE — Games, treats and a costume contest will be offered to attendees of all ages at the 13th annual Boozaar festival Saturday at the courthouse square downtown.

The free Halloween-themed event is from 6 to 8 p.m. A children’s costume contest begins at 6 p.m. on the stage at the corner of Seventh and Leon streets.

Event organizer Faye Nichols, a librarian at the Gatesville Public Library, is helping with her seventh Boozaar.

“We always have an astronomical turnout,” Nichols said. “I know it’s well over 1,000 attendees, but the way it’s set up, there’s really no way to count attendance.”

Local businesses provide the bulk of the event’s input, as well as candy, treats and game booths. But other vendors also set up booths at the festival, Nichols said.

The Boozaar provides a means for local businesses to gain public exposure for their various products and services while also giving back to the community, Nichols said.

“It’s been very popular and successful in our community for all the years we’ve had it,” City Secretary Wendy Cole said. “We’ve always had very positive feedback in the community.”
