For two nights, a college building will transform into the banquet hall of an old English castle.

The king and queen, along with their royal court, troubadour, town crier and a gypsy will work to solve the court jester’s age-old question, “Why do fools fall in love?” during a musical dinner theater at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 7-8 at Central Texas College’s Anderson Campus Center.

“Little Fools Fall in Love” by Paul Brandvik is an interactive song and dance performance.

Shelly Millikin, a sophomore drama major at CTC, is stage manager for the production.

“I hope to accomplish — by doing this dinner theater — that when people come in to see the production, that they experience a richness of a group of students who are dedicated to this college and the programs it offers,” said Millikin on Monday during dress rehearsal. “I’m so committed

to working with almost every set design and every single production. ... I want to be doing this for the rest of my life.”

Celinda Hallbauer, director for the production and professor of music at the college, said the performance is a collaborative effort.

“We have a combination of trying to get the choir and band together and we have actors,” she said.

Hallbauer compared the production to a murder-mystery show.

“When you come to the show, you first gather in the outside of the castle, and you’re entertained there,” she said. “Then the town crier will take you into the castle and they’ll introduce you.”

CTC’s culinary arts department will serve a medieval meal featuring wassail, roasted chicken legs and flaming Black Forest cake.

During the meal, visitors will not only be entertained, but also get visits from beggars and “uninvited guests,” Hallbauer said.
