Lone Star Que 4 Kids, a local first-year charity that raises funds for child abuse prevention, will host a barbecue competition April 24-26 at Sandy’s Lone Star Events in Nolanville.

On April 25, Southern Man Band and Back Roads will play for sponsors and team members, although the concert is open to the public for a $5 donation. Barbecue judging will take place April 26.

Teams of four or five members can register to compete in pork, chicken or brisket cook-offs, as well as margarita and bean competitions. There is a $105 “meat” team registration fee, but $100 of the fee goes to charity.

The competition is a sanctioned Central Texas Barbecue Association cook-off to ensure sound judging. Register to compete at que4kids.org.

About $4,000 has been set aside for the meat competition prizes, and first through 10th places will receive money and a trophy. There will be a grand champion as well.

Winners of the margarita and bean competitions will split a prize jackpot. Attendees can donate to the pot at the event.

Proceeds will go to Aware Central Texas.
