TEMPLE — Saturday is a big day at the Cultural Activities Center.
Early birds will line up for an 8 a.m. start at the second annual Run for the Roof 5k, hosted by the Contemporaries of the Azalee Marshall Cultural Activities Center.
A one-mile Fun Run/Walk starts at 9 a.m.
There’s something for those who rise later, as well. The second annual Festival of the Arts starts at 10 a.m. and continues throughout the day with indoor and outdoor activities, arts and crafts booths, food and live music until 5 p.m.
Proceeds from the run will be used to replace the aging roof at the CAC. The race is a professionally chip-timed event under the guidance of Profit Event Services. Phantom runners also are available for those who wish to participate, but would rather watch from the sidelines.
During the festival, a children’s art exhibit will be on display in the galleries. The Schade Tree Band will perform in the auditorium. Later in the evening, Temple High School students and other local artists will perform.
Kiddo Kingdom is providing an inflatable Monster Obstacle Course and Animal Kingdom. Children will be invited to create chalk drawings on the CAC sidewalks and to make paper art animals with Paper Dawgs Creations.
From 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., Maggie, from Maggie Moo’s, Bobby Buns from Schlotzsky’s and Larry the Lion from Lion’s Junction Water Park will be available for photos inside the CAC’s Strasburger Hall.
A car show sponsored by The Car Shop in Temple and Killeen will be on display on the grounds of the CAC.
Food options start with breakfast tacos from Hog Heaven at 6:30 a.m. Throughout the day, the Temple Lions Club will sell hamburgers, hotdogs, snow cones and more.
The CAC will sell souvenir T-shirts along with bottled water and sodas.
