Salado’s Tablerock Festival will host its 20th annual Central Texas Poetry and Prose Reading on Thursday night at the Goodnight Amphitheater.

Poets, writers and fans will gather at the indoor backstage area to hear original works. Besides the invited speakers, newbies will find a place in the spotlight at an open mic session following the featured readers.

The headliner for the literary event is Austin’s Thom “The World Poet” Woodruff, a regular on the poetry circuit in England and Australia, and the co-founder of the Austin International Poetry Festival.

An active member of the Central Texas poetry community, he was instrumental in rejuvenating the Temple Live Poets program in 2010, and has read for and coached students in English classes at Salado High School.

In addition to Woodruff, a dozen invited readers will recite prose and poetry, including three Tablerock Poetry Contest winners from Salado High School.

“If you’re unpublished or published, it makes no difference,” said Jackie Mills, director of the event. “All are welcome to read their works.”

Mills, a published poet, author and playwright, said each participant must read from their original work or have a designated reader.

A table will be set up for writers to display published works, autograph and sell books and CDs.

“It’s free for readers and audience, and we’ll have refreshments for sale,” Mills said.

Poets seeking publication may submit their original works for the Tablerock Poets Annual Anthology: “Cat and Dog Tales” by emailing three poems about animals to tablerock1@aol.com for consideration. Submission guidelines are listed on Tablerock’s website, www.tablerock.org.
