Romance, intimacy and classic love songs will be on the menu Valentine’s Day at The Crescent Lounge. The club will feature the live music of Steve & Friends in addition to a special dinner for two.

“We’re performing the kind of romantic music that gets your heart pounding,” said Steve Pettit, leader of the group.

“For this intimate evening, the band will be made up of musicians from Swingtime Big Band and will feature one of our singers, Ashley Frazier-Hill. The smaller instrumentation will fit the cabaret-like atmosphere perfectly.”

Members of the Killeen-based group are from area cities. Frazier-Hill is a graduate of Killeen High School and works as a PBS aide at Westward Elementary School. Percussionist Joseph Valencia went to Copperas Cove High School, graduated from Texas A&M and teaches biology at Shoemaker High School. Other musicians travel from Austin and Temple to rehearse and perform with the band.

“St. Valentine’s Day calls for a unique blend of old and new love songs,” Pettit said. “It’s a more mellow, warm feeling that enhances the romantic glow kindled by the ambiance of The Crescent Lounge. Of course, the great food and drink they serve helps, too.”

The club has a Valentine’s dinner for two that includes a couples’ meal starting at 7 p.m. as well as the musical show, which begins at 8 p.m. The cost is $30 per couple.

“In our larger configuration, Swingtime Big Band, we’ve performed on the first and third Sundays of each month at The Crescent Lounge for about a year now,” Pettit said. “So we’ll follow our Valentine’s gig with the full-blown large ensemble on Feb. 17. There’s no cover charge and the downbeat for Sunday’s performance is 7 p.m.”

The Crescent Lounge is at 2100 E. Elms Road, Killeen. For more information, call (254) 213-1697.
