European duo perform Monday at Killeen college

Central Texas College welcomes a European musical duo for the next guest artist performance.

On Monday, the college’s Fine Arts Department will feature a performance by violinist Jolente De Maeyer and pianist Nikolaas Kende in the fine arts auditorium on the Killeen campus.

De Maeyer, who hails from Belgium, received her first violin lessons at the age of 4 and has performed as a soloist for with the Yehudi Menuhin Orchestra, the Flemish Radio Orchestra, the Royal Flemish Philharmonic, the Norfolk Symphony Orchestra, the Kempisch Youth Orchestra, the Brussels Youth Orchestra, the St. Petersburg State Academic Capella Chamber Orchestra and the St. Petersburg State Academic Capella Symphony Orchestra, among others.

Kende, who was born in the Netherlands, began studying piano with his parents at the age of 5 and studied at the Amsterdam Conservatory and at the Royal Antwerp Conservatory between 1999 and 2005. As a soloist, he played concertos by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Poulenc, Ravel, Bartok and Rachmaninov with orchestras including the Symphonic Orchestra of Flanders, the Flemish Radio Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders.

De Maeyer and Kende began playing together in 2003 and formed the Rubensensemble in 2007.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Monday, and tickets cost $5 per person. Children age 12 and younger are admitted free, and free child care will be provided by the CTC Child Development Center. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the CTC music scholarship program.
