SALADO — Gospel musicians from around Texas will perform at the 2013 Tablerock Annual Gospel Festival today and Saturday at the Goodnight Amphitheater.

“We have about 14 different groups and individuals set up for this year,” said Alvalin Woodul, co-director with her husband, Jim Woodul.

The festival is hosted by Tablerock Festival of Salado, a nonprofit organization that runs day-to-day operations and event planning for the outdoor venue.

“The money we collect from the concert will go toward expenses related to running the amphitheater,” Woodul said.

Some of the performers appearing this year are southern gospel duo The Tates, The Church Street Band from First Baptist Church of Salado and solo gospel singer Cliff Underwood.

“I just love gospel music, and I’ve been raised around it all my life,” Underwood said. “This will be one of my biggest solo endeavors yet.”

Food will be available for purchase at the festival and musicians will sell their CDs.

“Since they are performing at the festival for free, this is a way for them to recoup some of their expenses for getting here,” Woodul said.

Festival-goers are welcome to bring chairs, sun umbrellas and ice chests. No alcohol is allowed. Woodul recommends patrons also bring jackets in case of cool weather.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children, age 12 and younger.

“People will receive arm bands when they pay their admission at the gate: that way they can come and go as they please,” Woodul said.
