The 51st annual Ebony Fashion Fair, the world's largest traveling fashion show, hosted by Mu Theta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., will return to Killeen to put on a show at the "E" Center in Harker Heights on March 27 at 7:30 p.m.
Twelve professional models travel throughout the U.S. with the Ebony Fashion Fair and present the latest styles during fashion shows in an effort to help nonprofit organizations raise money for various programs.
This year's event – "The Runway Report: What's Hip. What's Hot, What's Now!" – will benefit the college scholarship program of the Mu Theta Omega chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., which hopes to raise enough money to award $10,500 in scholarships to students from each of the area high schools in Killeen, Copperas Cove, Belton and Temple.
"It's a fabulous show that reminds you of fashion week in New York. That's how good it is. And it's exciting for that caliber of a show to come to our city," said Camille Howard, a member of the Mu Theta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and the chairperson of the Ebony Fashion Fair.
The Ebony Fashion Fair is an annual event in Killeen and is the sorority's biggest fundraiser.
During this year's show, a former scholarship recipient will speak about how the money contributed to his academic success. There will also be a silent auction before the show.
Doors at the "E" Center in Harker Heights will open at 6 p.m. The cost is $35 per ticket.
For tickets, call (254) 833-2781 or (254) 415-8185.
Every ticket purchase includes a choice of a one-year subscription to Ebony or Jet magazine.
The deadline to submit a scholarship application is March 27. Applications are available at area high schools and will be awarded in May.
