When the sun goes down across Central Texas, outdoor entertainment heats up at area amphitheaters.
Outdoor shows are a hallmark of summer in Killeen and Salado.
Since June, Killeen Parks and Recreation has been alternating its Hot Summer Nights concert series and Movies in the Park big-screen feature on Friday nights at the amphitheater at 2201 E. Veterans Memorial Blvd. behind the community center.
The free entertainment offers a fun way for families to spend time together.
Tonight's show features a screening of "Puss in Boots," a PG-rated animated film featuring the voice talents of Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek. The film starts about 8 p.m.
Bring a blanket or lawn chairs and a picnic basket and enjoy the show.
Concession stands also offer food and drinks for purchase, but alcoholic beverages and glass bottles are prohibited.
Return for the rest of the shows planned this month:
July 13: An electric blues concert by Pride in Joy.
July 20: "The Help" is rated PG-13.
July 27: Enjoy a salsa concert by Grupo Soncache.
Experience live theater outdoors at Tablerock in Salado.
History comes to life July 21, July 28 and Aug. 4 in the 20th annual presentation of "Salado Legends" at the Goodnight Amphitheater on Royal Street.
