Swingtime Big Band will headline Harker Heights High School's annual fundraiser for the band program, "A Knight of Jazz," today at the school cafeteria. The event starts at 7 p.m. with optional dance lessons during the first hour. The Harker Heights Jazz Ensemble performs from 8 to 8:45 p.m., and Swingtime takes the stage at 9 p.m. An extensive dessert buffet and beverages, including Starbucks coffee, is included in the $10 ticket price. The Somewhere in Texas Band performs from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. today at Bo's Barn Dancehall at 4984 W. Farm-to-Market 93 in Temple. Cover charge is $10.

"Precision," a mixed media assemblage by Jeremy Newton, is on display in the upstairs art gallery of the Central Texas College library. It features a transformation of various household items such as toothbrushes, matches, pens, erasers and grocery sacks into aesthetic objects. A free meet-and-greet reception will be in the gallery from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday. Newton's work will be on display through May 3 during library hours.

Graduating seniors of the art department at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor are celebrating their academic achievements with exhibitions at the Arla Ray Tyson Art Gallery in the Townsend Memorial Library on the UMHB campus. The second exhibition runs through April 27, and the third exhibition is April 30 through May 8. Festivals, events

The 14th annual Crawfish Boil Fish Fry and silent auction is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 5 at the Killeen Special Events Center. The event will feature crawfish, catfish and chicken. Ruben Ramos and Kevin Fowler are among the several artists set to play at this year's Bloomin' Temple Festival this weekend in downtown Temple. On April 28, the Harker Heights Ladies of Charity is hosting a "Mad Hatters Tea Party" Spring Luncheon and Style Show to benefit the Killeen Food Care Center. Events start at 11:30 a.m. at the St. Paul Chong Hasang Parish Center, at 2412 Stillhouse Road, Harker Heights. There will be fashions by Dillard's of Killeen, lunch, a silent auction and door prizes. Everyone is encouraged to come dressed wearing their favorite hat.
