Central Texas College recognizes nursing program graduates

The Central Texas College Nursing Department held pinning ceremonies Dec. 13 in the Anderson Campus Center to honor students in the Licensed Vocational Nursing program. Twenty-one students received their pins after completing the 53 credit hours required for the LVN program.

The guest speaker for the ceremony was Crystal Malone, an LVN at the Hughes Unit correctional facility in Gatesville and graduate of the CTC nursing program.

Several students received awards and recognition for academic success. Graduating with high honors for maintaining at least a 3.8 GPA was Ashley Laws. Graduating with honors for keeping a GPA between 3.5 and 3.7 were Lauren Eck, Jamie Hughes, Jovone Johnson, Karina Palos and Markeshia Woods.

The CTC student chapter of the National Federation of Licensed Practical Nurses scholarship was awarded to Anna Callen and receiving the Monarch Uniforms scholarship for achieving the highest grade on the Assessment Technologies Institute Comprehensive Examination was Krista Haun.

ADN program

The CTC Nursing Department also awarded nursing pins to students completing the associate degree in nursing on Dec. 13. A pinning ceremony was held in the Anderson Campus Center for 41 students who completed the required 71 credit hours of course work and clinical rotations in the ADN program. The pin symbolizes a medal of excellence and the passage of the student nurse role to that of a practicing nurse.

The guest speaker for the ADN ceremony was Lesa Murray RN, MSN of the Veterans Health Administration.

During the associate degree ceremony, Debra Cranfill was recognized as graduating with high honors for maintaining at least a 3.8 GPA. Graduating with honors by maintaining a GPA between 3.5 and 3.7 were Trenay Hawkins, Nicole Worth, Christine Quichocho, Heather Lacroix, Charles Bradley, Jelsea Brank, Nicole Cullen, Juana Groat, Samantha Nichols and Laura Smith.
