Bell County Texas Democratic Women

The Bell County Texas Democratic Women recently awarded four scholarships at its annual banquet. Scholarships were awarded to students based on academics, leadership skills and an essay.

Alexandra Fernandez of Temple High School was awarded the Women Helping Women scholarship. She will attend the University of Texas-Austin to pursue a business degree. Fernandez will be the first member of her family to attend college.

J.R. Morgan of Temple High School was awarded the Richard E. Morgan memorial scholarship. He will attend Temple College with the intent of pursuing a law degree.

Unable to attend due to a military change-of-station move to Nevada, Xavier Moffit from Belton High School also was a scholarship winner. Moffit will attend the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, where he will study kinesiology.

The final scholarship was awarded to Sarah Kennedy of Rogers High School. She will attend the University of Mississippi and plans to seek a degree in the medical field.

Central Texas Bellydance Association

The Central Texas Bellydance Association performed at a fashion show Tuesday afternoon at the Temple Meridian.

Killeen Ladies Golf Association

Several Killeen Ladies Golf Association members were a part of a field of 80 area lady golfers in the monthly Central Texas Ladies Golf event July 3 at the Berry Creek Country Club in Georgetown.

KLGA winners were: first flight: first gross, Janet Gaddy; second flight: first gross, Patty Wilson; third flight: second gross, Irene Patterson; third net, Yong Wells; fourth flight: first gross, Kyong Shim; second gross, Insuk Behymer; fifth flight: third net, Sonja Dover.

Lions Club Senior Center

Members meet on Tuesdays to play bridge.

Last week’s winners were: Shirley Stephenson, 6,150; Faye Henley, 5,330; Edith Carlile, 4,380; Frances Barr, 3,740; and Mary Reid, 3,500.
