The temperature Friday evening was in the 20s outside, but the warmth of fellowship inside and a common bond in the business world attracted more than 100 people to the annual Fort Hood Area Association of Realtors Christmas Gala at the Courtyard by Marriott in Killeen.
Movie star posters on display and a red carpet entryway set the stage for the gala’s theme, Old Hollywood.
The gala featured live music, dancing, dinner, a presentation to Bell County Habitat for Humanity, the awarding of Realtor of the Year and Affiliate of the Year plus induction of the 2014 officers and board of directors. Outgoing president Laura Segarra said the association has a membership of about 500 covering an area from Lampasas to Belton.
“The gala is a celebration for all the Realtors who’ve worked hard all year and a way to say thanks to the organization’s leaders for all they’ve done,” Segarra said. “We can’t do our jobs without a strong support group like this one.”
New officers sworn in for 2014 were Kenneth “Scooter” Barclay, president; Andrea Thompson, vice president/president-elect; J’Neka Thompson, secretary; Michael Linnemann, treasurer; and Laura Segarra, immediate past president.
Board members for 2014 are Bary Heidtbrink, Linda Carlson, Emilio Perales, Lety Ford, Myka Allen-Johnson, Suky Sims, Patrick Pruifoy and Belva Crosby.
Awards presented at the gala included a check for $2,360 to Steve Church for Bell County Habitat for Humanity. The money was raised at the annual FHAAR Bowling for Humanity event earlier this year.
Andrea Thompson was named Realtor of the Year, and Samantha Jackson was named Affiliate of the Year.
