Did you know that the Bell County 4-H program reaches more than 600 youth through community clubs each year? An additional 2,000 students in Bell County were reached last year through 4-H curriculum enrichment programs in schools, special interest projects and military 4-H programs. We have 4-H members in every school district in Bell County, private schools and home-schools.

The youth involved in 4-H gain life skills such as leadership, public speaking, responsibility, networking and positive self-esteem through many activities from raising livestock to leadership to shooting sports and even veterinary science. Some kids participate in leadership opportunities such as 4-H ambassadors and serve as club, county and district-level officers, preparing them to do community service and to become contributing members of society after graduation. 4-H members also have the opportunity to apply for scholarships as a reward for their hard work.

The past few years, we have even had National Award winners qualify for National Contests and several youth will be attending National Conferences this year, representing Bell County.

Each year, the Bell County 4-H hosts fundraisers to help with the costs of supporting our young people. We will again be launching an event designed for the outdoorsman. Our event is called the Hunter’s Spectacular and will be Oct. 12 at the Bell County Expo Center Assembly Hall. We will feature vendor booths with hunting supplies. We will also have a drawing for 20 guns, hunting supplies and lots of other great prizes.

For the young people, we have old-fashioned carnival games and activities and we will also serve a meal before we draw for the prizes. A live auction of outdoor items will take place that evening as well as you can get ahead on your Christmas shopping with the silent and ticket auction.

Mark your calendar and come out and support the local 4-H members on Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. The Hunter’s Spectacular will be fun for you and your family and supports a good cause. Tickets are only $5 and can be purchased from any 4-H member, the County Extension Office, or at the door. A meal will be included with each ticket and will be served at 6:30 p.m. (meal is first come, first served). For more details or questions, call the Bell County Extension Office at 254-933-5305.

If you are a business or individual who believes in the 4-H program and would like to sponsor a gun or hunting supplies or an item for the silent/ticket auction, please fill free to call our office. We also have a limited number of business commercial booths available for those who sponsor a gun.
