Never dissatisfied with her looks or what the number on the scale read, Killeen resident Josie Reid, 46, has been a regular workout enthusiast her entire life. A former soldier, physical fitness was always a staple in her routine and it’s continued since she transitioned out and started a family of her own.
Despite her consistent workouts and time in the gym, she wasn’t seeing the results of all her hard work. So she decided to bite the bullet and enter a physique competition in Austin in April.
“I really wanted to take my fitness to another level and this contest I entered is making me really push myself,” she said. “I didn’t know what I was getting myself into, but I have a goal and I am working towards it.”
Since getting back in the workout groove in April 2011, she has gone from 27 percent body fat to 13 percent.
“The scale for me hasn’t changed, but I see a difference in my muscle definition and my overall body shape,” she said. “I am really focusing on my arms and my ab region.”
Reid hits the gym hard for an hour and 45 minutes six days a week. Her workouts involve a combination of cardio, CrossFit and weight lifting.
“I didn’t even tell my husband I was signing up for this contest. I just kind of went for it,” she said. “People have a habit of talking themselves out of doing things, which is why I just filled out the form and sent it in.”
