The KISD Career Center will host a blood drive from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. today in the Killeen High School cafeteria, 500 N. 38th St.

Potential blood donors may volunteer beginning at age 16 with parental consent. Those 17 and older may give independently and there is no upper age limit for giving blood.

All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, feel well on the day of donation and present a government-issued photo ID each time they give blood. Eating a nutritious meal and drinking plenty of water before giving blood also is recommended.

July is a peak time for travel-related and outdoor accidents that can require blood transfusions.

Additionally, 22 percent of the annual blood supply comes from high school blood drives.

For more information or to schedule an appointment, call Cynthia Hodges at 254-336-7208, Carter BloodCare at 800-366-2834 or go to carterbloodcare.org.
