Immanuel to offer  blessing of backpacks

Immanuel Lutheran Church will have the Blessing of the Backpacks this Sunday. Students of all ages are to bring their backpacks to either the 8 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. worship service for a special blessing to carry them throughout the school year.

Recovery group meets Saturdays at church

Faith and Recovery Group meetings for Alcoholism are from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays at Second Street Baptist Church.

Church’s preschool enrolling youngsters

St. Christopher’s Episcopal preschool’s fall enrollment is open. Youngsters from 18 months of age through pre-kindergarten are accepted.

School is in session Tuesdays through Thursdays, beginning Aug. 29.

Knights of Columbus offers breakfast

The Knights of Columbus offers breakfast in the Columbus Hall from 8 a.m. to noon the first Sunday of the month. The hall is behind St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2901 St. Francis St., Killeen.

On the menu will be eggs made to order, sausage, cereal, home-fried potatoes, pancakes, waffles, biscuits, toast, grits, juice and coffee.

Cost: Adults, $8; youngsters 12 and younger, $4.50.

Public invited to concert by the Steel Magnolias

San Marcos’ Steel Magnolias will present a fully choreographed concert of southern gospel music at 6 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Holland.

The group has traveled across the United States.

The group returned last month from its 2016 summer tour through Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama and Louisiana. The members presented 15 concerts on an eight-day tour.

The pastor, Randy Evans, and members of the First Baptist Church invite the public to the concert.

Heights church to host singles conference

The First Church of Harker Heights will host its ninth singles conference on Sept. 2 and 3. The conference is from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at 2314 Indian Trail.

There will be a cost of $25 for the two-day conference. The Rev. Tess Stewart, international evangelist, will be speaking at the conference.

New Sunset Community Church will have special nights of revivals as it welcomes revival speaker Herman Cramer and Ernie Mike, music evangelist, starting Sept. 18 from 6 to 9 p.m. The revival will continue Sept. 19-21 from 7 to  p.m. at 814 W. Avenue C, Killeen.
