Clothes giveaway today

Free clothes, shoes and household items available from 9 a.m. to noon today at Praise and Deliverance, 315 Gray St., Killeen.

Free book bags available

Register for free book bags to be given away at the fifth annual Back to School Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Church of the Deliverance, 3121 Commerce Drive.

There will be food, drinks and entertainment for the children.

The church is across from the Killeen Animal Shelter and across the street from Killeen High School.

Free school uniforms offered

Free school uniforms, clothing and miscellaneous items are available at East Lake Baptist Church at 3213 Lake Road.

Clothes Closet is open from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays.

Youth to get school supplies

Mt. Zion United Methodist Women are planning their third Back to School with God: Bibles, Burgers and Blessings from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at 218 Alexander St. in Belton.

Youth will receive backpacks, school supplies and age-appropriate Bibles.

Donations for students sought

Donations to provide school supplies for 50 families in Copperas Cove are being accepted.

Financial donations need to be made by Aug. 20. This will allow time to purchase the items and get supplies to the parents before the children return to school.

Prayer luncheon set for Tuesday

The Killeen Christian Ministers Fellowship monthly prayer luncheon will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at East Side Baptist Church, 500 N. W.S. Young Drive.

All area pastors, ministers and chaplains are invited. Senior pastors who are unable to attend are invited to send a representative.

A complimentary lunch will be provided.

The Killeen Christian Ministers Fellowship is an informal organization whose goal is to strengthen relationships among the spiritual leaders of the community. There are no dues or fees, and membership is open to all pastors, ministers and chaplains in the local area. The group meets on the first Tuesday of each month for fellowship and prayer.

PTSD series starts next week

Post-traumatic stress disorder support programs, W.I.N.G.S., the 16-part (30-minute) series begins airing at 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Each week programs will be repeated at 2 p.m. Saturdays, 11 p.m. Thursdays and 2 a.m. Sundays.

Programs are for spouses and family members of veterans and active-duty soldiers, including female veterans.

“Bread Crumbs on Purpose,” a book authored by Sandy Fulkerson, reveals a Houston couple’s own PTSD when Dean Fulkerson returned from Vietnam. The book shares their life stories. The Houston couple provides monthly seminar and support groups held on post at Fort Hood as well as in Houston.

A book signing and seminar will be held at a later date.

COGIC convocation planned

Texas Southeast Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction COGIC’s 47th annual Holy Convocation is Wednesday though Aug. 11, at 7 p.m. at Ministry of HOPE, 2 N. General Bruce Drive, Temple.

The theme is “God’s People Setting The Standard Through Commitment, Obedience and Great Accomplishments.” Jeremiah 50:2, Romans 12:2.

The Host is Bishop LaDell Thomas Jr., pastor of Deliverance and Praise COGIC in Harker Heights and jurisdictional prelate of the Texas Southeast Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction. Supervisor of Women is Dr. Joyce Thomas Campbell.

Conference speakers will be Bishop Robert I. Davis, Pastor Demetrius Beachum, Richard White, Superintendent Gabriel Hatcher, Evangelist Lillian Thomas, Pastor Cedric Adams, and Superintendent Unice Braziel.

Church to honor elder, wife

Temple of Faith Apostolic Ministries will host its fourth annual “Founder’s Appreciation & Church Anniversary” services to honor the faithful labor of Elder Mark E. Kirkland and First Lady Kathy A. Kirkland.

The theme for this year is “Called, Chosen, Faithful.”

A church banquet will be at 4 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center on W.S. Young Drive in Killeen.

Attire is formal only.  

The annual celebration event begins at 7 p.m., Wednesday through Friday, and concludes with the 11 a.m. worship service on Aug. 11 at 808 N. 8th St., Killeen.

The guest preacher is Elder Edgar Usher, senior pastor of The Ship of Praise Church in Houston.

Fundraiser set for Aug. 11

Joshua Men’s Group fundraiser is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 11 at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 102 E. Church Ave. in Killeen

Cheeseburgers or hamburgers are $2 each. Frito pie or cheese nachos are $1.50. Pickles, sodas or bottled water are 50 cents each.

The initial service for The Christian Temple of Restoration will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 11 in rooms 3 and 4 of the Killeen Conference and Civic Center.

Faith Point Church invites the public to join it in celebrating the accomplishments of Hope Sturm at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 11.

Sturm earned the Gold Medal of Honor from the National Girls Ministry.

Author to sign books Aug. 17

Local author W.T. Stockburger will sign his book, “Reflecting the Character of Christ,” from noon to 3 p.m. Aug. 17 at the McWha Book Store, 114 Central Ave., Belton.  

Stockburger is a member of Gideons International and attends Bethel Church in Temple. He teaches Bible studies and works with individuals on personal growth levels.
