Warrior Shield is a support group for soldiers, veterans and their families that meets at the Harker Heights Methodist Church.

Chaplain to address Killeen Aglow meeting

Nelson is retired after 19 years as the chaplain for the Texas prison system.

Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie and Supervisor Stan McKenzie will be at Adams Chapel at 10 a.m. Sunday, the intersection of Arlo Road and Amy Lane in Harker Heights.

The McKenzies are Episcopal leaders of the Tenth Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Ministry’s food pantry available Feb. 15

Open Arms Outreach’s free monthly food pantry begins at 9 a.m. Feb. 15 at the center, 413 Eighth St., in Killeen.

In addition to the free food giveaway, breakfast burritos will be served at no charge. The food pantry will remain open as long as the food lasts. The free food pantry is part of a community outreach program held on the third Saturday of each month.

Support groups for vets, caregivers set to meet

Chaplain Stephanie Handy with the Department of Ministry, Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, is set to lead two support groups. Both groups are for men and women. A support group for veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder, their caregivers and spouses is from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. Meetings are for anyone who has been diagnosed with PTSD or wonders if they have it.

A support group for veterans, their caregivers and spouses is from 2 to 3 p.m. Feb. 20. The meeting is for anyone who has survived any kind of traumatic event.

Pro-family advocate to speak at KPLE-TV dinner

Dr. Richard Land, a pro-family advocate and president of the Southern Evangelical Seminary in Charlotte, N.C., will be the guest speaker at KPLE-TV’s annual banquet.

The event is from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center.

Music for the event will be provided by Gary Anthony, minister of music at First Baptist Church in Temple.

The topic of Land’s talk will be “The Sanctity of Life versus Quality of Life Debate: The Defining Moral Issue of Our Time.”

Individual tickets are $25 each.

Table sponsors are needed for the event, with prices ranging from $300 to $2,000.

Youth musical features choirs, praise teams

A black history youth musical, hosted by Praise and Deliverance House of Prayer, begins at noon Feb. 22 at 315 N. Gray St., downtown Killeen.

The musical features the Victorious Praise Youth Choir, local choirs, praise teams and soloist.

Immanuel Lutheran marking anniversary

Immanuel Lutheran Church is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.

Kicking off the yearlong celebration is a special church service at 10 a.m. April 6 conducted by Tangled Blue, a husband- and-wife team who performs Christian-based folk and rock music. Tickets for the Texas barbecue meal catered by “The Settlement” (home of Big Hoss BBQ) and Tangled Blue are $10.
