Holy Family marking 50th anniversary

Holy Family Catholic Church in Copperas Cove celebrates its 50th anniversary this weekend with a festival, a street dance and a special Mass.

In 1956, the local Catholic community was a mission parish of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Killeen, and it gathered each Sunday for Mass in the home of Joe and Jane LaFountain.

On March 10, 1963, under the guidance of Bishop Louis Reicher and Father James Donnelly, Holy Family parish became the official Catholic community of Copperas Cove.

Events to celebrate the church’s anniversary begin at 3 p.m. today with the Funfest, which will be held on the grounds of the Knights of Columbus hall on Farm-to-Market 2657.

From 7 to 10 p.m. today, the church will host its annual Street Dance, also at the Knights of Columbus hall.

An Anniversary Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Joe Vasquez, Bishop of Austin at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the church, 1001 Georgetown Road.

Everyone is invited to attend any or all of these activities.

First COGIC plans prayer breakfast

An all-you-can-eat prayer breakfast starts at 9 a.m. today at First Church in God in Christ in Killeen.

Breakfast is $8 per person.

Killeen Healing Rooms open today

The Killeen Healing Rooms will be open from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. today in the KPLE-TV building, 502 E. Elms Road in Killeen.

The group’s commission is based on Mark 16:17-18, “And these signs shall follow those that believe ... they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”

Prayer teams will be available for petition Jesus Christ for healing.

New compassionate service starts today

Beginning today, on the second Saturday of the month at 5 p.m., a new worship service will start for members of the community.

Compassionate Worship is for those in the community who are unable to attend a regular service due to medical reasons, handicapped, disability, etc.

This is a service where loved ones can bring their relatives and they don’t have to worry about how they look, walk, communicate, etc.

Compassionate Worship is open to everyone.

Westside Baptist hosts concert today

Divine Messengers presents Central Texas Gospel Quartet Explosion at 4 p.m. today at Westside Baptist Church.

The theme is “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 12:4-11

The concert features The Divine Messengers of Killeen, Victorious Voices, Marylyn Taylor and Co., The Gospel Sons Quartet of Waco, The Gospel Holy Tones Of Temple, The Lampkin Family of San Antonio and The New Soul Invaders of Industry Texas.

The public is invited, and there is no charge to attend.

National Day of Prayer 2013 Prayer Planning Fellowship is from noon to 1 p.m. Monday.

First Baptist garage sale Thursday, Friday

A church garage sale, sponsored by First Baptist Church Killeen, is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the Special Events Center on W.S. Young Drive, next to the Killeen Civic and Conference Center.

The sale features thousands of items, including electronics, clothing, books, furniture and appliances.

Children in grades one through five are invited to a day of worship, Bible study and games form 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 23.

The Christian band, LADS, will lead the worship.

The cost is $20 and includes a commemorative T-shirt and lunch.

The deadline for registration is March 17. The church is at 3310 S. W.S. Young Drive.

Bibleway COGIC men to meet Friday

Bibleway COGIC Men’s Fellowship program starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday at 300 W. Jasper Road in Killeen.

Author to sign books March 16 in Killeen

Apostle Demond Tolliver has scheduled two book signings in Killeen, both on March 16.

Tolliver’s book, “Breaking Ungodly Soul Ties: Exposing the Enemy,” explains how to break toxic relationships and ungodly soul ties for good.

Tolliver’s first book signing is at the Christian Family Bookstore from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1801 E. Central Texas Expressway.

His next stop is Hastings Book Store from 1 to 3 p.m. at 1500 Lowes Blvd.

Public invited to March 16 health fair

A health fair will take place from 9 a.m. to noon March 16 at Greater Peace Missionary Baptist Church.

The Good Hope Western Association Health Fair will offer screenings for blood pressure, diabetes and obesity. Hypertension classes will be conducted every hour.

A free clothes and food giveaway will be conducted by the church’s Crisis Closet.

Good Friday, the sanctuary is open for prayer from noon to 3 p.m. on March 29.
