Fort Hood prayer event set for today

Greater Fort Hood Day of Prayer and Fellowship for Chaplains, Pastors, Christian Leaders, Intercessors and anyone who wants to pray is from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.

A complimentary breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Prayer and fellowship will take place at the Spiritual Fitness Center, corner of 33rd Street and Battalion Avenue, at Fort Hood.

Food giveaway at Open Arms Outreach

Open Arms Outreach will hold its free monthly food pantry beginning at 9 a.m. today at the ministry’s outreach center at 409 Eighth St. in Killeen.

In addition to the free food giveaway, other hot foods will be served at no charge.

This ministry serves the community by providing emergency food, toiletry items, and financial assistance and counseling. It also operates an adult literacy program and offers free educational tutoring for school-age children.

Open Arms Outreach has Sunday school at 9 a.m. each Sunday followed by a 10 a.m. fellowship.

A Sunday evening fellowship will be at 6 p.m. each week beginning in February. Bible study is offered at 7 p.m. every Wednesday.

The free food pantry is part of a community outreach program held on the third Saturday of each month.

MLK breakfast, discussion today

Harker Heights Community Church will host a Martin Luther King Breakfast and Panel Discussion at 10 a.m. today.

Members of the community will reflect on King’s speech and contemporary issues related to the inclusion of all people.

Episcopal church hosting blood drive

St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church is hosting Carter BloodCare from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot.

Carter BloodCare is a not-for-profit community blood center that is the sole provider of blood products to Metroplex Hospital, the VA hospital in Temple, Darnall Army Medical Center and 12 other area health care facilities.

The community is invited.

The blood drive is being held at 2800 Trimmier Road in Killeen. No appointment is necessary.

Founders Day event at Bible Way church

Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church will hold its annual Founders Day program at 3 p.m. Sunday.

The Rev. Dexter Hicks, associate minister at Bible Way, is the speaker.

The public is invited to attend.

Cookout planned for King holiday

The public is invited to a cookout for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at Jesus Hope and Love Homeless Mission, 818 N. Fourth St., behind H-E-B in downtown Killeen.

Meals will be offered on a donation basis. Dine-in or takeout will be available.

All proceeds go toward the purchase of a transitional and emergency shelter for the homeless.

Unity Walk kicks off MLK celebration

The 15th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Celebration kicks off with a Unity Walk at 1 p.m. Monday.

Participants will assemble at 12:45 p.m. at First Step Child Care Center, 1402 S. Farm-to-Market 116 in Copperas Cove.

Transportation from Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church to First Step Child Care will be available from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Bible Way is at 2306 S. Farm-to-Market 116.

The program, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What Are You Doing For Others?” begins at 2 p.m. at Bible Way.

Special guest speaker is Pastor A.W. Anthony Mays, senior pastor at Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Austin.

Mays is dean of the Congress of Christian Workers National Baptist Convention of America, Inc. Intl.; vice moderator of the St. John’s Regular Baptist District Association; and chairman of the Ministers’ Conference Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas.

Three winners of $1,000 scholarships each will also be announced.

Bible study session scheduled Monday

The Temple-Belton Community Bible Study adult co-ed evening class will hold an introductory session for its current study of “The Divided Kingdom and the Minor Prophets.”

The session begins at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the small sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Belton, corner of Sixth and Main streets.

This is an interdenominational study for men and women of all backgrounds who are interested in an in-depth weekly study of God’s Word.

Anyone one interested in learning more about CBS and/or registering is welcome to attend.

The class is open to all adults and meets Mondays from 7:30 to 9 p.m. until April 29.

Individuals may choose to participate in core groups for young adults, men, women or married couples.

Each week participants will receive a reading commentary on the previous week’s topic and a set of questions to work on each day covering the next week’s reading.

On Monday nights, these questions will be discussed in small groups.

Following the small groups, there is a short lecture over the same section of Scripture.

Men’s prayer event set for Jan. 26

The Copperas Cove Community Wide Men’s Prayer Breakfast is scheduled for Jan. 26 in the upstairs fellowship hall of Northpointe Church, 1115 N. Main St., Copperas Cove.

The prayer breakfast is an effort to bring the men and their sons together to pray for the community and the concerns of the state and nation.

All Christian men are invited to attend.

Breakfast, prepared and served by the men of Northpointe, starts promptly at 7:30 a.m.

Evangelism event at First Baptist-Killeen

‘One Perfect Word’ at First Baptist

‘Night of the Races’ planned Jan. 25

The fourth annual “Night at the Races” is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at the St. Paul Chong Hasang Parish Center on Stillhouse Lake Road.

A 10-race program, food and a silent auction are sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 9930.

Horse sales and race sponsorships are available.

Donations of items or gift certificates for the silent auction are accepted until Jan. 24.
