Wear country best at Bethel Church service
In keeping with its country roots, Bethel Church will have a service Sunday that will center on Country Gospel Music with special music by the church’s own “Wallace Family.”
Wally Wallace, father and leader is part of the vocal trio, joined by his son, Joshua, and his wife, Amanda Wallace.
Wally, and sons, Josh, Caleb and Zachariah join in with added instruments.
Visitors are invited to come dressed as they desire, but a group photo will be an added part of the celebration with all who come dressed in country or western best.

Back to School Prayer Time Monday
LifeWay Fellowship is hosting the annual “Back-to-School Prayer Time” on Monday.
Refreshments and fellowship will be from 8:30 to 9 a.m.
Beginning at 9 a.m., prayers will be offered for students, teachers, administrators and other school personnel as they begin a new school year.
Special attention will be given to parents who have sent their children to school for the first time.

Ugnadan Orphans Choir to perform
The Ugandan Orphans Choir will perform at First Baptist Church in Killeen at 6 p.m. Sept. 9.
The choir is a ministry of Childcare Worldwide which serves children in nine developing countries. The choir is composed of 10 children ranging from 10-14 years of age who perform traditional Ugandan songs.
A free-will offering will be taken.

Killeen church to offer classes
First Baptist Church of Trimmier in Killeen will be hosting Dave Ramsay’s Financial Peace University from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 9.
This class will run for nine weeks ending on Nov. 4.
The cost for these classes are $89 per person for new attendees; FPU graduates — no cost but can purchase an updated kit for $49; workbooks can be purchased for $14.95 each.

Art of Peace Festival set in Belton Sept. 16
The Fourth annual Art of Peace Festival begins at 3 p.m. Sept. 16 at Cedarbrake Retreat Center, 5602 Highway 317, Belton.
The festival was created to celebrate and support International Day of Peace.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Children’s Advocacy Center of Central Texas.
The event, hosted by Cedarbrake Retreat Center, will include live music, poetry, a silent auction of original art, and one-of-a kind hand-painted pinwheels (part of the international Pinwheel for Peace Project).
Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. and proceeds from this event benefit Children’s Advocacy Center of Central Texas in Belton.
Tickets are $20. Reservations are appreciated, but tickets will be available at the door.
Emily Kaitz of Fayetteville, Ark., will once again do double duty as event emcee and will be performing this year with Greg Lowry of Austin.
Also performing are Richard Berman of Amherst, Mass., and Adler and Hearne of Winnsboro.
Readings will be by poets Anne McCrady of Henderson, and Allen Gray of Copperas Cove.
The artworks donated for the silent auction were created by local, regional and national artists.

Jewish cookbook author to give class
Tina Wasserman will be coming to Killeen this weekend. The author of the highly successful cookbook Entree to Judaism A Culinary Exploration of the Jewish Diaspora.
Wasserman is a respected and well-known cooking instructor living in Dallas. Her hands-on approach to all facets of food, (that also happens to be kosher), and its preparation have appealed equally to her non-Jewish and Jewish students for 40 years. Traditional Jewish cooking follows the 3 R’s regulation, ritual and relocation. Tina will explain what this means.
She will present a hands-on cooking class today with a lecture and demonstration Sunday at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center.
Wasserman also will speak about the origins of Jewish recipes and shares samples.
Tickets are limited for the hands-on event and are $35.
Tickets for Sunday’s event may be purchased in advance for $10 or $12 at the door.
Copies of her cookbook will be available for $40 at the door, or pre-order for $36.
Wasserman is sharing her talent in a benefit for support of Congregation Simcha Sinai, a small congregation in Harker Heights.
