Free monthly food pantry open today

Open Arms Outreach’s free monthly food pantry begins at 9 a.m. today at the ministry’s outreach center, 413 Eighth St. in Killeen.

Breakfast burritos will be served at no charge.

The food pantry will remain open only as long as the food lasts. The free food pantry is part of a community outreach program on the third Saturday of each month.

This ministry serves the community by providing emergency food, toiletry items, and financial assistance and counseling. It also operates an adult literacy program and offers free educational tutoring for school-age children.

Ensemble hosting Soul Food Fest today

Soul Food Fest, hosted by the A.J. Reed Gospel Ensemble, begins at 11 a.m. today.

Dinners are $8 a plate. Pick dinners up at the Tabernacle of Praise Worship Center, 348 S. 40th St., Killeen.

Marriage enrichment sessions scheduled

Three Cord Marriage Ministry marriage enrichment sessions are from 7 to 9 p.m. the second and fourth Mondays of each month.

District budget meeting set for Feb. 25-28

The C.H. Mason Memorial District Budget Conference will convene at Garden of Gethsemane COGIC in Harker Heights at 7 p.m. Feb. 25-28.

The theme for the conference is “Recapturing Holiness” Isaiah 35:8-9.

A musical evening is Feb. 25 with guest speaker Pastor Lloyd Halliburton of Fort Worth. Special musical guest is Albert J. Reed.

Bishop A.L. Thomas Jr., Texas Southeast Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, will speak Feb. 26.

District Missionary Florence Grove, C.H. Mason District, will host a women’s day program Feb. 27. Guest speaker is Dr. Joyce Thomas Campbell.

Guest speaker for the Official Night on Feb. 28 is Pastor Robert Curtis, New Life Church in Temple.

Willie D. Grove is superintendent of the C.H. Mason District.

Bible study group plans introductory session

The Temple-Belton Community Bible Study adult co-ed evening class will conduct an introductory session for its current study of Romans at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the small sanctuary of First Baptist Church at Sixth and Main streets in Belton.

The class is open to all adults.

Individuals may choose to participate in core groups for young adults, men, women or married couples.

Group supports troops, veterans, families

Warrior Shield supports soldiers, veterans and families. The group meets at the Harker Heights Methodist Church.

A free meal is served and participants break up into groups.

The men’s group is led by Sam Askins and John Beckling.

Sue Beckling leads the group of families and veterans who have not seen combat.

Caregivers For Christ meets Tuesdays

Caregivers For Christ meets from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays at the Spiritual Fitness Center Chapel on Fort Hood.

The meeting is open to caregivers and spouses (female or male) of active-duty soldiers or veterans from any conflict.

Who Is Your Soldier or Veteran Today? is led by retired Chaplain William “Bill” Shelnutt.

PTSD, trauma support groups offer assistance

Chaplain Stephanie Handy, with the Department of Ministry at Fort Hood’s Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, leads two support groups open to men and women, active duty, retirees or anyone who has served in the armed forces.

Post-traumatic stress disorder and trauma support groups are for active duty, retirees or anyone who has served in the armed forces, caregivers and spouses.

Those with PTSD or people who might think they have the condition meet from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays.

Survivors of any kind of trauma meet from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursdays.

New Sunset Community to ordain deacons

Jason Lewis and Ray Archie will be ordained deacons with the Rev. Ed Talley presiding at the 10:50 a.m. service Feb. 23 at New Sunset Community Church.

Brother Jimmie Auten, minister of education for New Sunset, will give the ordination sermon.

The event is free, family appropriate and open to the public.

Gospel music concert set for March 15

The second annual Central Texas Gospel Quartet Explosion kicks off at 4 p.m. March 15 at Bible Way Missionary Baptist Church, 2306 S. Farm-to-Market 116, Copperas Cove.

The explosion features The Divine Messengers of Killeen, The Gospel Holy Tones of Temple, Marylyn Taylor and Co. of Waco, The Gospel Crew of Waco and The Gospel Stars of Austin.
