For more than 20 years, many of the churches in Harker Heights have joined to conduct a community Thanksgiving service.
This year, the service will be at the First Assembly of God Church at the corner of Harley Drive and West Cherokee Drive, beginning at 6 p.m. Nov. 20.
The Rev. David Starkey, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church, will open the service and also provide the Song Leader and provide for the music.
The sermon will be given by the Rev. Jay Thomas, past pastor of the First Baptist Church of Harker Heights. He was involved in organizing the first community Thanksgiving service and presented one of the first sermons in the series over 20 years ago.
He retired as pastor three years ago after serving more than 18½ years as First Baptist Church pastor.
Several other churches will participate in the community service.
The Rev. Mike Tracy, pastor of the New Beginnings Church, will give the Opening Prayer.
The Rev. Philemon Brown, pastor of the Harker Heights Community Church, will lead the Responsive Reading.
Trinity Baptist Church will provide the Special Music, and Dr. David Morgan, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, will lead the Joys, Concerns and Intersessions and the Lord’s Prayer.
The Rev. John Beckling, pastor of the Harker Heights United Methodist Church, will lead the Affirmation of Faith.
As in past years, the offering received in the service will be given to the Harker Heights Food Care Center.
Deacon Klaus Adam, St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church, will give the Offertory Prayer.
The Benediction will be provided by Rev. Jung Kim, pastor of Crossway Korean Baptist Church.
