Murder has rarely been as humorous as this.

The Killeen High School theater department, the Roo Players Drama Club, is presenting “Murdered to Death,” a murder mystery spoof by Peter Gordon.

Show times are 7 p.m. Wednesday and 2 p.m. Saturday at the KHS auditorium. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students.

Killeen High School’s new theater director, Jeremy Falch, said students worked overtime to make the production special.

The cast of 12 and crew of seven have spent time after school the past few weeks to learn lines and perfect the timing of the comedy classic.

Audience members will be treated to a classic mystery with stereotypical characters and talented acting, but also an amazing stage set.

Falch said his six classes of 140 students have all labored to build and paint the elaborate interior scenery.

“I wanted to do something grand to set the tone for the future of the program,” the director said.

“I wanted to get a lot of students involved and we have kept the ticket prices

low to get students and the community to come see how great Killeen High School is.”

In his 10th year in Killeen ISD, Falch moved over this year from Eastern Hills Middle School. He is a veteran of Killeen ISD summer musical productions.

Rich language and familiar murder-mystery characters make the play a fun one to see. You have the rich, old lady, the mysterious foreigner, bumbling police officer, beautiful sidekick, the butler (who might have done it?) and the respectable old colonel, to name a few. Without giving away the end, the story includes a murder and everyone seems to have a motive.

The careless police officer bumbles through the investigation and gradually the truth unravels in spite of the characters involved.

“I chose the play because of the interesting characters,” Falch said. “It gives the students an opportunity to explore the different forms of comedy. The script is rich in word play, in double meanings and in physical humor.

“These students have worked hard to get the show together. They are hungry to succeed.”
