FORT HOOD — The Department of the Army released new general officer assignments on Tuesday, and First Army Division West at Fort Hood will be getting a new commanding general.

Maj. Gen. Erik C. Peterson, director of Army Aviation, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff in Washington, D.C., is scheduled to take over Division West from Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Colt.

Before working as the director of Army Aviation, Peterson commanded the U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Colt’s new assignment has not been released and a date for the change of command has not been set.

Colt assumed command of Division West in January 2015. He was responsible for providing training and readiness oversight and mobilization operations for an area of responsibility including all states and territories west of the Mississippi River, primarily mobilizing members of the U.S. Army Reserve and Army National Guard for overseas deployments. | 254-501-7554
