Changes to the cost of child care are coming to Fort Hood in October.

But the specifics of exactly how are still up in the air.

Fort Hood is awaiting guidance from Installation Management Command before announcing how the post will be affected, according to the press office.

These changes are being passed down from the Defense Department, which oversees more than 800 child care facilities worldwide.

New weekly fees will be based on total family income and apply to all children attending on a regular basis, said Cmdr. Leslie Hull-Ryde, Defense Department Spokesperson, in an email.

“This year’s adjustments to the fee structure reflect family income ranges that account for recent pay increases and a new category of fees that are determined based on the area’s cost of living,” she said.

A post on Fort Hood’s Child, Youth and School Services Facebook page said fee changes will go into effect Oct. 1 and will change pricing at child development centers, school-age care, family child care, middle school and teen programs, SKIESUnlimited, Youth Sports and Fitness and Army community-based programs.

The post, made on Aug. 31, ends with, “Stay tuned; we will provide more details when they are finalized.”

While other stateside installations, such as Fort Irwin, Calif., and Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii, are disseminating information similar to Fort Hood, overseas installation Camp Humphreys, Korea, announced that some benefits provided to deployed families will be cut.

A memo from Camp Humphreys indicates that the 20 percent fee reduction for families of deployed personnel will be eliminated, along with the SKIESUnlimited fee credits.

Oct 1st is always the magic date for any price increases to go into effect for the military or many times even the civilian population , due to COLA connected increase's to SS/SSDI.
I read several months ago, this year it will run in the 1+ catagory, Not much. Hopefully what I read was wrong.
